Our Mission, "THE GIVING TREE" - January

We will continue to collect scarves, hats, gloves, coats, sweatshirts, sweaters, you have the idea. . . anything to keep the homeless warm, throughout the month of February. These items can be dropped off at the church at 9435 Henry Ruff Road by first calling the church at 734-421-5406. We also collect food staples for the homeless. These items all go to the Cass Corridor Homeless where there are homeless of all ages. We thank you for your support. Please call the church first so you don't make a trip over when there may not be anyone there. Thank you.

A History of Nativity's Giving Tree
Our Christian Education Ministry originally started this mission as an annual Christmas mission, naming it the "Mitten tree." The Mitten Tree supported the homeless family shelter of Wayne County on Michigan Avenue with winter items for several years and concluded in December of 2006 and, then evolved into a yearlong mission in 2007.
The mission was re named "The Giving Tree" and supported the homeless people in the Cass Corridor area of Detroit throughout the year with donated items of need. The most needed items were winter hats, gloves, scarves, socks, undergarments, toiletries and gently used coats. Nativity partnered with Mr. and Mrs. Maddsen to deliver the donated items to these people in need. Sadly, Mr. Maddsen passed away in 2007, but it was his wish for Mrs. Maddsen to continue her involvement with helping the less fortunate. Therefore, we have continued with Mrs. Maddsen as an important link to this mission.
Several times a year, Nativity's Women's Fellowship makes 200 plus sandwich lunches, which Mrs Maddsen picks up and delivrs to the hungry in Cass Corridor. At Christmas, the Nativity congregation send food, clothing and toys for the children.
Thank you to all who have so faithfully given to this mission, and thank you to Mr. and Mrs Maddsen!
